Mayobridge Club Notes Sunday 2nd June 2019

Mayobridge Notes

It was ‘blitz mania’ last weekend at Mayobridge GAC with the underage girl’s camogie at U6, U8 and U10 level, the first of the 2019 season. Proceedings commenced at 11.15am after a huge traffic gridlock eased with 19 clubs from Co Down fielding a total of 53 teams.
Reports back from our referees, mentors and coaches all agreed that every match was played in a very good spirit and the camogie at a high level. Well done to all!
A huge thanks to the blitz organising committee, referees, stewards, mentors and coaches who brought all their players to today’s games. A lot of planning went into this event which proved to be a huge success and one of our busiest blitz’s to date. Thanks to Dessie Kennedy who was MC and with the hooter system in place he kept things running very smoothly. Thank you again Dessie. Also a mention to our teenage club girls who helped out serving the teas, coffees and bakes throughout the morning to the huge crowd present, and indeed to all our club members who left in yummy tray bakes for all to enjoy.
Finally all donations received which amounted to £253.68 at our blitz will be given to the charity PIPs.

On a May bank holiday weekend Mayobridge GAC hosted its annual club day and Duck Derby race of 2019! Mass was celebrated in our church and we were delighted to have our fantastic Mayobridge band lead the procession to our club playing fields. This was a wonderful event which brought the whole community together and it was great to see so many people come out to support it. At 3pm all gathered around the river while Sean Rooney and Jimmy Coulter released the ducks.
The crowd anxiously awaited to see which duck would cross the finish line! Congratulations to Naiomh O’Reilly, Peter Ruddy and Aislinn Sexton whose ducks came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
A huge thanks to the organisers of the Duck Derby contest, Thomas, Deirdre and Helen Coulter for their sterling work in organising our annual Duck Derby event. To Sean Rooney, Jimmy Coulter, Eamon Fitzpatrick and Enda McConville who made sure all the ducks made it to the finish line. To Gillian Fitzpatrick for her running commentary today and to all the volunteers who left in sandwiches, tray bakes and helped serve tea and coffee earlier today at the Club. The band, ‘Lift the Roof’ provided live music in the club from 5pm on. A super day was had by all!

U10 & U8 Ladies Football County Blitz
Mayobridge’s first ever U10 & U8 ladies football teams travelled this Saturday to Annaclone for a greatly organised blitz. Both teams played with cool heads and impressive skill throughout the morning. There were some great tackles and blocking as well as fantastic scoring and forward thinking as the girls put into practice what they had been taught in training over the last few months. As their first competitive outing this was an outstanding performance by the bridge girls and all their parents, mentors and club are very proud of them.

Mayobridge GAC organised a Fundraiser for their U14 Feile teams on Saturday morning from 9am-5pm.
All customers agreed they received an A1 Car Wash!
