Mayobridge Club Notes Sunday 30th August 2020
Down Senior Championship Result.
Mayobridge 0-16 Clonduff 2-11.
Mayobridge crashed out of this year’s Down Senior Championship when a goal in the sixth minute of injury time saw Clonduff emerge winners by a single point in a dramatic game in Pairc Esler on Sunday afternoon. In the first half the Bridge had built up a four-point lead before the first water break but this break seemed to halt their momentum and the Yellas came back into the game to cut the lead to a single point as half-time approached. Then came a controversial score when a high ball into the Bridge goalmouth was fielded by Shealan Strain but the umpire adjudged that he had carried the ball over the line when TV cameras appeared to show that the ball had not crossed the line. This left the score at the break, 1-7 to 0-8.
Despite the injustice of that goal award the Sky Blues hit three points in quick succession at the start of the second half to take the lead once again. For the rest of the half they kept their noses in front and with time almost up they had the chance to seal the game when they were awarded a penalty. However, Cory Quinn saw his effort saved by Neil Trainor. With time virtually up the Bridge were still two points in front when the referee punished the Bridge for what he deemed was time-wasting at a side-line free and from the throw-up Clonduff gained possession and a high ball was launched into the Bridge defence and was flicked to the net. The Bridge had a last gasp chance to level the game but the ball went wide and so their Championship ambitions ended for this season.

U16 Camogie Championship
Final score: Mayobridge 9.7 Ballyholland 2.0
Report by Martina Rooney
A late change in venue saw Mayobridge Camogs face Ballyholland in round two of the group stages, at home.
The girls were keen to build upon the hard-fought victory last week and make it two from two. The ‘Bridge girls settled quickly into the game as Emily Fitzpatrick showed great tenacity from the start as she launched the first attack. We registered three wides before Jessica Gribben finished to the net. Cara Crimmins was a constant threat and was rewarded with our second goal. Ellie Carr also netted for the sky blues before Laura Greenan raised the first white flag of the night. Crimmins pointed twice again before Orla Crimmins scored a great point. Carr raised the green flag before Greenan finished the half with a further 1.1.
Defence worked very hard during the first half with captain Leah O’Hare starting several attacks with great clearances. She was ably assisted by Niamh Carr and Amy Murney in the half back line as they broke down a lot of play and hassled for every ball. Caragh McConville, Emma Carroll and Meave McCartan covered a lot of ground as they found themselves in a lot of space.
Half time score: Mayobridge 5.5 Ballyholland 1.0
Ballyholland started the second half strong and were rewarded with a well taken goal. This kickstarted our girls into action as Ellie Carr got her hat trick! Laura Greenan found the net again before Ellie Carr scored her fourth goal. Orla McElroy went from setting up several attacks to score getter as she rattled the net. Cara Crimmins and Cliona Gordon finished the scoring with points apiece.
This was a good team performance with some lovely passages of play and all six forwards getting on the score sheet. Ellen Griffin made some crucial clearances in goal and our midfield duo of Laura and Emily went through a serious amount of work!
Well done girls!
