Mayobridge Club Notes
After their morale boosting win over Burren in the championship the previous week Mayobridge senior team continued their recent resurgence with a well merited league win over visitors Clonduff on Friday, the final scoreline reading 4-15 to 2-12. The foundations for the victory were laid in the first half when the Bridge found the net three times with Shane Smyth scoring two goals and Cory Quinn hitting the other one. As half-time approached the home side led by ten points but in injury time their defence switched off and Clonduff burst through to snatch a goal to leave the score at the interval 3-6 to 1-5.
Clonduff started the brightest in the second half with two quick points and almost pierced the Bridge rearguard on a couple of occasions but good defending kept them at bay. The Bridge gathered themselves again to ride out the storm and a Shane Annett goal helped to steady any nerves and by the end the Sky Blues were very worthy winners. This game also saw the return to action of Ryan Brady after a lengthy lay-off and he marked his return with a point just after being introduced. This was a very good team performance but special mention must be made of Cory Quinn who once again gave an outstanding display and at the moment is simply unmarkable.

On Saturday in Castlewellan, Mayobridge will be hoping to progress in the senior championship when they come up against Loughinisland, throw-in 3.30.pm. The East Down men have completed a league double over the Bridge and will be a formidable opposition so the Sky Blues will have to continue their recent good form to progress. On Saturday afternoon the reserve team bowed out of the Premier Reserve Championship when they lost to neighbours Burren on a scoreline of 0-21 to 1-9. The Thirds however progressed in the Down Reserve Championship on Sunday evening when they won at Tullylish by 2-14 to 1-8.
Mayobridge U14 footballers played their second Championship group game at home on Monday night last against Drumaclone (Drumgath /Annaclone) and it was the visitors who started brightly, scoring a goal and a point in the opening minutes. The Bridge stung by this early reverse began to claw their way back into the game and a goal and a flurry of points saw them take the lead. Drumaclone however continued to cause problems and picked off a series of scores before the Sky Blues responded in kind to leave the score at the break, 1-13 to 1-6.
In the second half the Bridge struggled going forward, turning the ball over too much and the visitors took full advantage to reduce the deficit to just three points with three minutes to go. In the closing stages the home side upped the tempo again and sealed the victory with a goal and a point.
Final score: Mayobridge 2-14 Drumaclone 1-10.
This result means that Mayobridge have topped their group and have qualified for the semi -final. Well done to the team and management.
