MAYOBRIDGE NOTES

On Friday evening Mayobridge and Bryansford met in Newcastle and after a closely fought contest it was the Bridge who scraped through by a four point margin, 1-11 to 0-10. The game was played in dark, misty, wet and miserable conditions with a bit of thunder thrown in for good measure and which necessitated the use of floodlights for the whole match.
Right from the start it was obvious that the Bridge were well up for this game and halfway through the first half had raced into a six point lead 1-3 to 0-0, Kevin O’Rourke the goal scorer. Bryansford began to inch their way into the proceedings and by the close of the half had reduced the deficit to four points 1-4 to 0-3. Just before the end of the half the Bridge were reduced to fourteen men when Shane McNamee who had earlier received a yellow card was then given a black card.
Cory Quinn hit a point in the opening minute of the second half but then the Ford began to dominate and they hit four consecutive points to reduce the lead to a minimum and looked set to take the lead. The Bridge however began to regroup and despite a few heart stopping moments they managed to hold out to clinch a badly needed win.
