Mayobridge senior team continued their recent winning streak in Division One with a three point victory over visitors and near neighbours Saval on Friday evening, the final scoreline reading 1-13 to 0-13. This was however not one of the winners most distinguished performances and owed their win to a very fortuitous goal scored just before the break. Only a point separated the teams when in first half injury time a long hopeful ball from Caolan Gallagher completely deceived the Saval keeper and ended up in the net. This left the score at the break 1-6 to 0-5.
The second half saw Saval, who are fighting for their survival in the league, put it up to the Bridge for long periods but stout defensive work kept them at bay and the home side prevailed thanks to that first half goal.

The Mayobridge senior camogie team have enjoyed a good run of success over the past few weeks. This included a home victory over Kilclief on a scoreline of 2.9 to 3.1. and a big away win over Drumaness.. On Wednesday evening the Bridge played hosts to Dromara to St. Patrick’s Park and enjoyed another handsome victory.
From the first whistle Mayobridge were on top although despite having a lot of possession they found it difficult to settle but eventually their persistence paid off as Catriona McGlade found the net. Some excellent passing and team work resulted in points from Michelle McCoy, Bridgeen Coulter, Mollie Smyth, Shenna McNamee and Katie McManus before Mollie, Bridgeen and Catriona found the net again. Aoife Sherry marshalled the half back line in the absence of captain Orlagh Caldwell and with the help of Grainne Clarke and Amy Magone, they worked hard to prevent scores at the other side.
Half time score: Mayobridge 4.9 Dromara 0.1
The second half saw a few changes to the ‘Bridge team and all who came in worked very hard to keep Mayobridge on top. Kirsty Magee who had an excellent game, continued where she left off in the first half as she caught ball after ball and drove up the field and she was rewarded with a fine point before moving to dominate in the half back line. The forwards kept on the offensive with Michelle McCoy converting some fine points and Mollie Smyth bagging a hat trick of goals. Shenna McNamee saw her endless running rewarded with a goal and Caitlin Smyth also got her name on the score sheet with a fine strike over the black spot. Eimear Magee, Martina Rooney and Shannon Barr dealt very well with the ball that came into the full back line and should take great confidence from their efforts. Charlene Lively made some great saves in goal and followed this up with accurate puck- outs. Although this game was won well, the two teams didn’t stop until the final whistle and both sides deserve praise for their efforts. Full time score: Mayobridge 8.17 Dromara 1.2
Next game is a trip to Atticall on Wednesday evening.

On Sunday morning there was a most successful Big Breakfast in the Social Club organised by Eimear Magee who will be travelling to Kenya next summer along with eleven other students and four teachers from St. Mark’s Warrenpoint to help build an examination centre for a school. Eimear would like to sincerely thank all those who supported the fund-raiser and the large number of volunteers who helped cook and serve the meals. Well done everyone.
Well done to all the boys and girls who attended the historic first Scór Summer Camp in Mayobridge and indeed the first in the whole of Ireland. The event was the brainchild of Nicole Keenan and Eimear Magee who deserve great credit for their fantastic vision in proposing the Summer Camp. A large number of friendships were forged, plenty of fun was had and a lot of fantastic memories to look back on. To all the Ceannaire who helped during the week thank you for making it all possible. Thanks is also extended to everyone who came to help and popped in to show their support.
