MAYOBRIDGE NOTES
Mayobridge GAC are hosting a Quiz night on this Saturday night (6th April) at 8.30pm in the Social Club.
Evie Toner daughter of our former player, Gary Toner, twin of Esme and sister of Meaghan aged 7 was born on 31st December 2016 at the QEQM Hospital, Margate in England. Evie was diagnosed with evolving four-limb cerebral palsy and has since been registered blind. Due to Evie’s condition she will require 24hr care and specialist medical, physio and occupational assistance to support her through life. Her parents are embarking on a campaign to raise funds that will provide her with the best medical care and support possible and we at Mayobridge GAC are offering to help!
All proceeds raised from the quiz night will go directly towards Evie’s care.
In their opening game of the league campaign Mayobridge U-18 team had a hard-fought win on Sunday morning against a very good Bryansford team, the final scoreline reading 6-9 to 4-12.
The Sky Blues got off to a fine start with goal in the opening minute by Dylan O’Hare but failed to build on this lead as the Ford team got back into the game and could have been well in front themselves but were thwarted by some fine last- ditch tackles by the excellent Shane Keenan ably supported by the promising Matthew Morgan.
The midfield partnership of Jamie McKay and Charlie Smyth put in a huge effort against two worthy opponents and in the end just shaded the battle in this area. The speedy Bryansford forward line gave the Bridge defence a tough time for most of the game but the hard -working rear guard managed to keep them at bay. In a game dominated by high scoring it was the four second half goals which helped win the day for the Sky Blues. Liam McManus scored two and created another for the sharpshooter Dylan O’Hare and Darragh White made a great impact with a well taken goal when introduced.
This was a tremendous team effort and it had to be against a Bryansford team who were right in this game to the very end.
