MAYOBRIDGE NOTES

Mayobridge senior footballers chalked up a much needed league win when they overcame Downpatrick at the Bridge on Friday evening in a high scoring affair, 4-15 to 2-13. A scintillating first half display saw the Sky Blues go in at the break leading 4-7 to 1-6, the goalscorers being Cory Quinn (2-0), Conor Garvey and Liam McManus,
In the second half the visitors upped their game, dominating the opening fifteen minutes and reduced the deficit to just five points and it could have been even closer but for a fine Paul Rooney save and some resolute defensive work., Gradually the Bridge began to weather the storm and a succession of points saw them home. Cory Quinn scored 2-11 of the Mayobridge total in an outstanding individual display.

Mayobridge U14 footballers travelled to Páirc Esler last Monday evening to play their first game of the Division One season. With a couple of injuries, the boys were always going to be in for a tough game against a big Shamrocks side, and so it proved in the first half. Shamrocks raced into a three point lead 0-6 to 0-3 and the Bridge lads were finding it hard to come to grips with their opponents. Just before the end of the half a fortuitous goal put them in the lead1-06 to 0-07 to give them a boost for the second half.
The Sky Blues knew that they had to up their game in the second half and they came storming out of the blocks with some fine determined play which yielded three goals in the opening fifteen minutes. Excellent defensive work restrictedShamrocks to only four points and the Bridge ran out winners by a nine point margin, the final scoreline reading 4-8 to 0-11.
