MAYOBRIDGE NOTES
On behalf of Mayobridge GAC, Chairperson Mairead Rooney and Helena Johnston, Club Treasurer recently presented a cheque for £450 to Padraig Harte of PIPs Hope & Support. The proceeds were raised at the recent Mayobridge Annual Awards Ceremony held on March 8th and also through PIPs merchandise sold at various underage events.
PIPs is a suicide and self-harm support group operating in Newry and Mourne to help prevent suicide and is the leading suicide prevention charity in the area.

On Sunday at Páirc Esler Newry prior to the Down v Louth Allianz Football league match Down County Chairman Sean Rooney and Down County Treasurer Diarmuid Cahill presented a cheque for £29,280 to our Chairperson Mairead Rooney and Vice- Chairperson Gerard Keenan. This cheque was drawn from the 2019 Down GAA Clubs Draw. Well done to all.

On Saturday afternoon the Reserves suffered their first league defeat of the season at Kilcoo when they went down by five points on a final scoreline of 0-17 to 2-6. In the Felix Darby Competition the Thirds recorded another good win when they defeated Atticall by 7-14 to 4-4 in Atticall.
Congratulations to the Mayobridge band who were recently informed by the Ulster GAA Council that they have been selected to play at four of the Ulster football championship games this summer and for the first time in the bands 41 year history they will be playing at the Ulster Football Final in Clones on Sunday 23rd June.
This is a massive achievement for Mayobridge and has been down to shear hard work on the part of the committee and tutors but especially the band members who are the real stars of the show.
It looks like another fantastic year in the making. Their Championship game dates:

Football training for the U-6 boys and girls each Sunday from 9.30 to 10.30 a.m. in the Community Centre. New members most welcome.
On Sunday 28th April at 1 pm.it is proposed to have a Mayobridge village clean-up. This is a fantastic initiative promoted by NMDC and we all as a community are invited to come together and become involved. All you need to bring is yourselves, your families, hi-vis vests and gloves and let’s get stuck in together to enhance our wonderful village.
Applications are now open for Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Irish Language Bursary Scheme. The scheme is to assist individuals who have not been awarded a scholarship / bursary from public funds to improve Irish Language skills through providing scholarships or bursaries for Irish Language courses, including Gaeltacht colleges, intensive courses and third level courses starting and finishing within the current financial year under consideration (1st April to 31st March).
The bursary will cover course fees only and applicants are eligible to apply for 50% of total fees for the course up to a maximum of £300 in total.

On behalf of the whole Mayobridge community the club would like to express deepest sympathy to the entire Gorman family circle on the death of Mrs Sheila Gorman, wife of the late Sean Gorman. May she rest in peace.
